For this update we shall follow for some moves the game Halwick Jr - Morgado, W1998F.001 IECG email, 1998.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 d5 4.Qa4 f6 Diagram

[ often played is 4...Bd7 5.exd5 Nd4 6.Qd1 Nxf3+ 7.Qxf3 and Black must prove he has enough for the pawn] 5.Bb5 Nge7 6.exd5 Qxd5 7.0-0 e4 Diagram

8.Ne1!? this is the "book line" and not as good as 8. Nd4 in my opinion [ Here are some suggested improvements: 8.Nd4 Bd7 9.Nxc6 Bxc6 10.Bxc6+ Nxc6 11.Re1 f5 12.d4 Diagram

12...Be7 ( 12...Bd6 13.Na3 a6 ( 13...0-0 14.Nb5 f4 15.c4 some White advantage) 14.Nc4 0-0 ( 14...Bxh2+ 15.Kxh2 b5 16.Qb3 White advantage) 15.Nxd6 White slightly better) 13.Nd2 0-0-0 14.f3 exf3 Diagram

( 14...Rhf8 15.fxe4 fxe4 16.Qc4 Qf5 17.Nxe4 Bh4 18.g3 White advantage) 15.Nxf3 Rhe8 ( 15...Bd6 16.c4 Qf7 17.d5 White advantage) 16.Bf4 Diagram

16...h6 ( 16...Bd6 17.Bg5 Rxe1+ 18.Rxe1 Rg8 19.c4 big White advantage) 17.Ne5 Bd6 18.Nxc6 Qxc6 19.Qa5 White advantage] 8...Bf5 9.f3 exf3 10.Nxf3 Bd3! Diagram

Black won this game but here White should have "bailed out" with 11.Bxd3 Qxd3 12.Nd4 [ 12.Ne1 was played in the game] 12...0-0-0 13.Ne6 with approximately an equal game.
